The schooner Victory Chimes passes by the Rockland Breakwater Light.
Though not as touristy as nearby Camden and Rockport, Rockland lies on the popular coastal Route 1, in an enclosed bay.
Besides being host to the Farnsworth Museum and its extraordinary 19th- and 20th-century art, Rockland also hosts The Wyeth Center, opened in 1998 to celebrate and study the works of Andrew Wyeth and family.
If weather permits, get out on the water: take a windjammer scenic tour, a whale watching trip, or the ferry out to Browns Head Light lighthouse, a 24-foot white brick cylindrical tower on the island of Vinalhaven. (See all lighthouse listings)
