You Are Here: My House

Yes, the price of gas has put a major crimp in my plans. But so has the weather. Have you stepped outside lately? Scary...

First I have to duck past all the falling icicles.

This one means business.

Aiming...

Then I have to slog through the drifts in order to shovel out the driveway.

A slightly deceptive angle, but not by much.

After shoveling my property, I still have to deal with the world beyond the sidewalk. And that's kinda scary.

Tunneling.

Guh.

You can see my plight, right? So for the moment, I'm not venturing past the driveway more than necessary. Okay, it's really more about conserving gas, but plans are in the works for a re-tooled Native Tourist. 2008 will be a good year for this column. If I can find my way out to the road...

Got an idea for a story? Do you know of Maine people, places and things I should visit? Drop me a line and tell me where to go.

We had the same problem this December in New York, only it was piles of tourists instead of snow.

Ah, nothing like watching the rubes just off the bus. "Oh honey, isn't there an Olive Garden in Times Square? Oh how neat! Let's find it on our map!"

Fairweather wuss...go look at your copies of DOWNEAST now, they don't even burn well in a woodstove.

This is what tourist hype generated by New Yawkers brings into Maine... time to shut that damn bridge down!
